Mrs. Ruth E. Townsend, 82, of Richmond, passed away on Sunday, July 1 at Reid Health.

She was born on January 30, 1936 in Richmond, Indiana to Jack and Eula Ray Ladd Kinder. She was a graduate of Richmond and was a loyal member of Cheer Block R. She was united in marriage to Bill Townsend 60 years ago on May 25, 1958.

Mrs. Townsend enjoyed a career as a teller at Second National Bank in Richmond. During her children’s formative years, the bank accommodated her need to be a stay-at-home mom when necessary. She spent time during many summers helping out at Camp Charlevoix in Michigan. She served the Lord through First Church of Christ in Lynn and First Friends Meeting in Richmond. She was a big Philadelphia 76ers fan.

Mrs. Townsend will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Bill; children, David Townsend and wife, Debbie; Linda Adams and husband, Gus; Cathy Witte and husband, Mike; John Townsend and wife, Brooke; 11 grandchildren, Kyle, DJ, Samantha, Lindsay, Joe, Amy, Truman, Blair, Bridget, Billie and Bailee; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Frances Kinder; niece, Beth Neuhart and nephews Bob Kinder, Scott Kinder and Dean Townsend.

Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, James Kinder and Robert Kinder.

Steve Smith will conduct a funeral ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are encouraged for Hand In Hand Adult Day Care, 2727 East Main Street, Richmond, IN 47374.
